Latching Waveguide Switches

Latching Waveguide Switches allow engineers to switch reliably between two RF channels. The latching type stays stable in both positions without holding current. You can choose manual or automatic (electromagnetic) actuators depending on the application.

All latching models handle high power and maintain low VSWR. They operate at full waveguide power, and most can pressurize up to 0.2 MPa (2 ATO) for high peak power applications.

What is a Latching Waveguide Switch?

These switches have a square stator with four waveguide ports. The rotor fits inside the stator and contains two or three channels. Quarter wave chokes connect the rotor and stator, providing high electrical isolation and consistent performance over the switch’s lifetime.

Mechanical waveguide switches provide:

  • High isolation for minimal interference between channels
  • Low insertion loss to improve radar performance
  • High power capability to maximize radar range
  • Long life and excellent durability

Key applications

Engineers widely use these switches in microwave systems. Typical applications include:

  • Radar redundancy transmitters

  • Connection to high-power dummy loads

  • Test systems for selecting signal paths

  • Satellite communications for redundancy
