Waveguide Rotary Joint

EVERAXIS designs the Waveguide Rotary Joint for reliable rotary transmission of power and signals. It connects the stationary and rotating parts of radar or satcom systems.

Since 1958, EVERAXIS has produced single and multi-channel Waveguide Rotary Joints. Each new design undergoes FEM simulation and physical testing to ensure optimal performance. Before shipment, engineers test every high-power unit at maximum peak power to guarantee reliability.

What is a Waveguide Rotary Joint?

A Waveguide Rotary Joint connects the rotating and stationary parts of a radar or satcom system.

Its basic design uses two waveguide-to-coaxial transitions with a coaxial line in between. The coaxial section has a symmetrical circular shape. This design allows free rotation without affecting performance.

The inner conductor of the coaxial line is hollow. As a result, engineers can run additional coaxial cables through the waveguide section. These cables enable the construction of multi-channel Rotary Joints using coaxial modules.

EVERAXIS offers several configurations:

  • Both waveguide ports at a right angle to the rotation axis (U-style)

  • One port at a right angle and one in line (L-style or F-style)

  • Both ports in line (I-style)

Waveguide Rotary Joint modules cover most frequency bands, from L-band to Ku-band, including double ridge bands. In addition, this flexibility supports a wide range of applications.

Key Applications

EVERAXIS Waveguide Rotary Joints are used where the following factors are critical:

  • High isolation to reduce interference between channels

  • Low insertion loss to improve radar performance

  • High power capability to maximize radar range

  • Long life and excellent durability

These WG designs are non-contacting and choke-coupled, ensuring high power and low loss performance.
