The 3000 Series Subsea Rotary Actuator delivers high torque and reliable rotary motion for a wide range of underwater and topside applications. Capable of producing a peak force of 120 ft-lb and a peak speed of 50 RPM, this actuator is ideal for process control valves, control surface actuation, and underwater winch systems. In addition, it operates efficiently in harsh environments, including subsea depths exceeding 6,000 meters.
The actuator features an industry-standard ISO 5211 F07 mounting flange and a customizable output shaft with an optional right-angle gearbox. Like all 2G subsea actuator products, the 3000 Series Subsea Rotary Actuator integrates a servo drive with absolute position feedback, ensuring smooth and accurate motion. The 3000R model also includes an LED light ring that provides real-time operator feedback such as shaft position, unit speed, and operational status.
Electrical and material specifications
The actuator supports 24V DC to 300V DC input configurations and can be fitted with several connector types to suit system requirements. Material options include titanium, stainless steel, and anodized aluminum, offering flexibility for various operational environments.
Moreover, the system supports multiple communication interfaces—RS-232, RS-485, CANBUS, Ethernet, and analog—and protocols such as 2G packet protocol, Modbus, and CANopen. Example integration frameworks are also available to help customers implement the actuator quickly and efficiently.
Operating conditions
-
Pressure rating: up to 10,000 psi, equivalent to roughly 22,500 ft depth in seawater.
-
Temperature: operating range -20°C to 65°C; storage range -30°C to 85°C.
-
Humidity: suitable for both above-water and underwater use. When used topside, it maintains an IP69K rating and performs well in acid washdown environments.
For applications requiring designs with no hidden crevices or traps, custom options are available on request.
Speed and output force
-
Maximum rotational force: 120 ft-lb @ 5 RPM
-
Continuous rotational force: 65 ft-lb @ 20 RPM
-
Maximum speed: 50 RPM @ 24V
Standard output speed is 50 RPM, though other configurations can be provided upon request. Consequently, the actuator can be adapted for both high-speed and high-torque applications, offering exceptional versatility.
Intelligent Rotary Motion
Each actuator operates as a fully integrated servo system, simplifying setup and control. Users simply connect power and send position commands — no calibration or homing is required thanks to the integrated absolute encoder. At power-up, the unit automatically recognizes its rotation count and shaft angle, providing immediate operational readiness.
The servo drive system includes a motion profiler that controls velocity and acceleration. Furthermore, operators can fine-tune the servo gain parameters to maximize performance for their specific applications. This combination ensures precise and stable motion under demanding subsea conditions.
Onboard Servo Motor Drive
The 3000R actuator includes a second-generation servo controller paired with a 500-watt drive amplifier. It uses a contactless, non-wearing absolute rotary encoder accurate to 0.1 degrees, maintaining revolution count even through power interruptions.
Key servo drive features include:
-
Configurable motion profiling
-
Velocity and position control
-
Gain scheduling
-
Cascaded PID control loops for position and velocity
Units come pre-tuned for stability, which minimizes setup time and simplifies integration. Nevertheless, users can adjust parameters when needed for advanced or customized applications.
Testing and quality assurance
Before shipment, each actuator undergoes a comprehensive Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) to verify mechanical, electrical, and sealing performance. Detailed test documentation accompanies every unit, ensuring full traceability and compliance with subsea standards.
As a result, the 3000 Series Subsea Rotary Actuator provides proven reliability, consistent performance, and long service life — even in the most challenging environments.
